A year and a half ago when I first started observing teachers at high schools I went out to Plato's Closet to "make my wardrobe teacher friendly." I wanted to look more mature and put together (hopefully its working!) I bought this sweater which is now one of the most comfortable things I own. I love the fun purple pattern that spices up my skinny black pants!

Today the weather in Colorado was beautiful! It is remarkable the beauty that I am so blessed to live in everyday. This weekend I went up to Aspen for a church retreat and marveled at the mountains. Despite the gigantic gusts of wind and the spinning snow flurries, the sun was shining down on us all weekend and warming our frosty noses. God is so good!

One of my favorite movies of all time is "You've Got Mail." From that amazing 1990's classic came my go to phrase when I'm sick, "My head is starting to get fuzzy," which no one can ever quote. So today while I was feeling mighty sick, I discovered that teaching in another language is extremely difficult when your head is fuzzy. Today I was super loopy at school, which I think was entertaining for my students. I just hope this cold goes away soon!!

I present to you my favorite shoes, emerald suede mary janes by Charles David. I love these shoes because they can add a pop to any outfit! These shoes battled through college, walking the streets of Buenos Aires, and more. I will wear them until all of the color fades off and the straps are hanging by a thread! :)

Over the weekend I headed back to Illinois, southern Illinois to be more specific. Here I took pictures outside of my grandparent's home in Springfield, a simple house that I've always love. My grandpa always made sure the yard was perfectly trimmed and that the paint was always crisp. So much hard work and love went into this home, which is something I truly admire.

In this outfit I am wearing the pink cameo brooch that my grandma gave me for Christmas. She gave all of her grand-daughters jewelry from her own collection. She was happy to see me wearing it this weekend. As you'll learn from my blog, I love jewelry with some history behind it! Ever since I was little I have always been drawn to old, vintage jewelry, clothes, furniture, and more. It's even better when it is something passed down from someone you love. Thanks grandma!

say goodbye to my grandpa. A wonderful husband

to my grandma for 63 years, a father of 5 children, 

an honored World War II veteran, 

& a loving man of God. 

You are missed dearly, Grandpa.

I've been wanting to wear these shoes for the longest time and finally found way to wear them that's not toooo out there! Turns out my magenta blouse came in handy to tie in the colors from my floral shoes and my black cardigan and dark blue jeans brought everything back together... I hope :)

Homemade elbow patches

What I'm wearing:

A week ago I was inspired on Pinterest to make heart shaped elbow patches, yet wanted to take a simpler approach. I made this little cuties in just a few easy steps. First, I bought a inexpensive sweater from Plato's closet and fabric from Joanne's Fabrics. I purposely chose a micro-fleece fabric that wouldn't fray when I cut it to avoid hemming the hearts and to save time. Next, I cut out the hearts after sketching them on the fabric and placed them with safety pins through the elbows of my sweater. From there, I sewed them on with navy blue thread keeping equal spacing throughout. That simple :)

On occasion my students notice my outfits and comment on them which always brings a smile to my face. Today one student noticed that I was wearing glasses and another girl said something really funny and cute about my belt. As I was walking around the room grading worksheets and a girl in my class asked me,"Ms. Rosie, do you like collect native american belts or something? 'Cause you have a bunch!" It was hilarious because it's kind of true. I have always loved native american influenced things like belts, patterns, boots, etc. This belt detailed with native american coins that I'm wearing was a gift from my mom's friend Cam last year for my birthday. It originally belonged to her and she decided to pass it along to me because she felt it was "my style" and she was right! Thanks Cam! As for my bracelet, that was an early Valentine's Day gift from my mom; she bought it at a store called Gem in my hometown. And yes, some of my students call me Ms. Rosie! 

{Red Velvet}

Added mini marshmallows before baking

Along with clothes and fashion I love baking, DYIs, sewing, and painting. Throughout my blog I plan to feature art projects I do, things I bake, etc. This weekend with the help of my friends I decorated red velvet cupcakes for Valentine's day (even though it is not yet Feb. 14th and all of them are already gone). Interesting fact about me: I have a severe anaphylactic dairy allergy so anything food related I feature on my blog will be dairy-free :) Here I used Duncan Hines Red Velvet Mix and Pillsbury's Creamy Supreme Vanilla Frosting. Before putting them in the oven, I placed 3 mini marshmallows in each cupcake for a melty surprise in each bite.

While I was shopping at Urban Outfitters earlier this week I stumbled upon these $19.99 boots in the sale section. I love the color and their vintage tom-boy feel. I'm looking forward to wearing them with a girly dress or a A-line shirt. I love the contrast between classic feminine items like lace and masculine influenced pieced, as well as brown leathers.

Although I love winter, fresh powder, and hot cocoa, I can't wait to wear floral skirts without tights, summer wedges, and sun dresses. Hopefully it'll start being warm soon instead of 16 degrees F.
